Arson

Arson is the intentional damaging of property by fire or explosion. The damage may be caused to a dwelling, business, or structure, provided that people commonly gather there. However, no person need be home (or present) for an arson charge. An individual may also be charged with arson if fire or explosion damage occurs while the perpetrator was in commission of a separate felony.

Aggravators which may lead to additional charges are whether an individual is hurt or injured in the fire. This includes firefighters or persons extinguishing the flames. In Florida, arson is a 1st degree felony punishable with significant jail time.
